Ingredients

Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in mixing bowl. Add Shortening - cut in like you would a pie crust. Add cold water gradually. Mix just enough to hold together. Take out of mixing bowl and place on a floured board; knead until very smooth.

Cover and let dough rest for 5 minutes. Then, on a floured board, roll out to about 1/8" thickness and cut into 3" squares. Drop sopapillas into deep fryer, 1 or 2 at a time, and when they surface fan with the hot oil until dough begins to rise. Turn the sopapilla over.

When they are light golden brown, remove and drain. Serve hot with honey.
